Yasin Toure’ also known as 'Afrikan Jawn' received her education from The Art Institute of Philadelphia, although she is a self-taught artist in the area of film-making and music. A passion she has had ever since she could find a television and a radio. As a writer/director, she  illustrates stories and characters with a strong authentic voice. She utilizes her background as a Senegalese American who lived back and forth between two cities. One city was South West Philly surrounded by black American culture as she spent time with her American mother. And the second city being Durham, NC where she was raised by her Senegalese father engrossed in an Islamic West African community. Her writing and direction is often poetic yet fully occupied in realism and truth. Her music is also poetic and lyrical with lots of storytelling as she shares a unique prospective. She currently lives in Los Angeles, California working on her next film under her production company, ‘Just Anotha Afrikan Jawn Production.’ All while she writes, produces and forms music.
